As the 2020 is in its final stage, with all its challenges impacting on both professional and personal life, Bosnia and Herzegovina managed to achieve significant results in progressing towards a country free from mines, even with very limited demining activities, due to ongoing pandemic crisis.

Despite the pandemic, we managed to complete the extension request according to the deadline under Article 5, paragraph 1 of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Storage, Production and Transfer of AP Mines and on Their Destruction, following the recommendations and suggestions of the GICHD (ISU) . The request was approved in November 2020, and the new deadline for fulfilling the remaining obligations is set for 2027.

In order to overcome the reduced number of demining activities and to additionally protect the population from mines, BHMAC taken additional measures to warn the population, including increased urgent marking of mine suspected areas, which resulted with no mine victims this year.

A new web-based database is being developed in order to replace the existing informational system and increase the availability and transparency of available mine action data. The project will help mine action institutions to increase transparency, improve planning capabilities and apply modern mine action standards for an accelerated pace of demining.

The new mobile application for mine suspected area in BiH, will ensure easier acquirement of data about mine suspected area in our country and will  improve future communication. In this way, general security and movement of people in the vicinity of mine suspected areas will be more safe and overall risk put at minimum.
Thank you for all your support, cooperation and understanding and may 2021, bring us all more stable and safe environment, so we can speed up the elimination of mine problem and reach the final goal and country free of mines.
