By September next year, Sarajevo will be declared as a mine-free city. The planned activities are proceeding according to the plan and a very intensive dynamics, it was concluded at today's meeting with representatives of the State Department, the US Embassy and the project implementer.

Sarajevo Mayor Mr Abdullah Skaka said he was confident Sarajevo would be a mine-free city within the planned time-frame. This will be an additional impetus for economic development and investment, especially in the field of tourism. He thanked all the partners involved, as well as the involved municipalities.

The project “Sarajevo without mines 2020” is being implemented in the municipalities of Stari Grad, East Stari Grad, Vogošća, East Ilidža and Novi Grad. Mr. Ethan Rinks, State Department representative, pointed out that these activities are of direct benefit to the population and are of great importance for the future development of the City of Sarajevo and the City of East Sarajevo.

The meeting was attended by Sasa Obradovic, BHMAC Director, Ethan Rinks, Program Manager for Europe at the State Department's Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs, Amel Fako and Salman Khan, US Embassy in Sarajevo, Gregor Sancanin, Program Manager for BiH, ITF Enhancing Human Security ”and Nermin Hadzimujagic, Director of the Mine Detection Dog Training Center (MDDC).
