Led by the
current situation in the country related to the presence of COVID 19 and the
pandemic that severely hit most countries in the surrounding area, and because
of the current delay in demining activities, BiH Mine Action Centre teams have
diverted their tasks to enhanced emergency marking, control and renewal of
existing mine warning signs.
As a
result, during the month of April, BHMAC teams conducted control, renewal and
additional placement of 2.620 emergency marking signs all around Bosnia and
Herzegovina, in areas with pronounced mine situation in Doboj, Kotor Varoš,
Petrov Brod, Derventa, Kostajnica, Ravna, Tomislavgrad, Bihać, Jablanica,
Livno, Tarčin, Vogošća, Ilijaš, Kiseljak, Busovača, Tuzla, Gradačac, Sapna and
Brčko.
These
activities are particularly important since most people, because of the current
restricted movement, go outdoors apart from strong warning to stay home,
therefor it is important to warn them to avoid unknown areas.
Minefield
marking is a continued activity of BiH Mine Action Centre with approximately
10.000 signs placed or renewed annually.
We appeal
to all citizens to respect the mine warning signs, i.e. not to remove, steal or
misuse mine warning signs because they endanger their own life and life of
other citizens who move nearby the minefields.
