Members of the BiH Demining Commission Mr. Suvad Džafić and Mladen Mrkaja along with BHMAC Director Mr. Saša Obradović are visiting Washington DC, United States. Within their visit, they met with Stanley L. Brown, v.d. Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs of the State Department, Gerald L. Guilbert, Program Manager of the Office of Weapons Removal and Ethan Rinks, Program Manager for Europe at the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs of the State Department. Representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina briefed State Department representatives on what has been done so far in the field of mine action in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as about recently adopted Mine Action Strategy 2018-2025 and two ongoing projects “General Assessment of Mine Suspecting Areas in BiH 2018-2019” and “Sarajevo without Mines by 2020”. They discussed the co-operation in the demining process in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the continuation of donations by the United States Government through ITF Enhancing Human Security.
The United States is the largest donor for mine action in BiH and it is very important to maintain the same or greater level of funding to meet the goals of the 2025 Mine Action Strategy. In 2018 alone, the Government of the United States has allocated 3.2 million KM for the demining process in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
