Mine free Sarajevo until 2020
Start of the implementation of ”Mine Free Sarajevo 2020“ project was officially announced on April 4th at the press conference that was held to inform the public on the official start of the project. The United States, as a sole donor to this project, provided the funds for the land release in Sarajevo and neighboring municipalities in both entities to be completed by the end of 2020. The funds are directed through ITF Enhancing Human Security and the entire project “Mine Free Sarajevo 2020” is implemented by the Mine Detection Dog Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina (MDDC). Marshall Legacy Institute is a partner of the project.
The municipalities where the project will be implemented are Stari Grad, East Stari Grad, Novi Grad, East Ilidža and Vogošća, on total area of 8.000.000 m2.
The land release activities are currently conducted in the Municipality of Stari Grad, on the area above the narrow-gauge railway Sarajevo-Pale, which is located in the settlement Jarcedoli and it will be continued in municipality of East Stari Grad upon completion of the activities in Stari Grad municipality.
